Memorial Prayer for Principal Ma Su-Shan

April 21, 2025 – 10:30 AM

Dear Heavenly Father,

Today we come before You with hearts full of reverence and gratitude as we remember Your faithful and beloved servant—our dear Servant Leader, Ma Su-Shan.

She lived a life of obedience to You, walking faithfully in Your will. She answered Your call and came from distant Canada to Hualien, in eastern Taiwan, bringing with her the love and hope of Christ. She stepped into each of our lives, filling a place no one else could. In humility, she served You all her life, and through her example, she left a lasting spiritual legacy.

She devoted herself to raising up healthcare professionals in eastern Taiwan. As the founder of the Mennonite Nursing School, she nurtured generations of students not only in nursing skills but in Christ-like compassion. Like a loving mother, she cared, listened, and encouraged. She poured her heart into each interaction, investing deeply in her students and in the ministry of nursing with the gospel. With her hands, she touched countless wounded bodies; with prayer, she walked alongside many lonely and hurting souls—offering comfort and peace that could only come from You.

Her books, Faithful Love and Journey of Many Steps, tell the story of her life, her faith, and her return to Taiwan. We remember her joyfully signing books at the nursing station, sharing the story of the Mennonite School and the work of Your grace through nursing.

As Your Word says in Galatians 5:22–23:

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Truly, we saw each of these fruits shining through her life.

And nothing she did at Mennonite was ever in vain. Just as Scripture promises in 1 Corinthians 15:58:

“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”

In 2024, we visited her in Canada on a journey of thanksgiving. Her warm welcome, radiant smile, and joyful laughter still echo in our memories. Her heart remained with Mennonite—she prayed for us often and always encouraged us to be the best nurses who rely on God. We were deeply touched by the warmth of Your love, expressed through her presence.

Her father once said to her,

“Go, be the best nurse, and serve God.” And that’s exactly what she did.

As we remember her today, may our hearts draw nearer to You. The hope of resurrection and eternal life inspires us and gives us strength. May we carry on her legacy—with compassion, professionalism, and unwavering faith. Help us never forget our first love or the faith we hold. Let Your love be our strength each day, and may our lives bring glory to Your name—until the day You return. May all glory and praise be to You.

Lord, we thank You once more. Servant Leader Ma now rests in Your glorious embrace.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness.” —2 Timothy 4:7

Dearest Servant Leader Ma, we will see you again in the Lord. May You comfort every heart here today, and be especially near to her family and loved ones in Canada. We pray this together, in one spirit, in the holy name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
